2024 Election Wrap-Up: The Numbers, Strategy, and Key Lessons from a Resounding Victory

Now that the dust has settled on the November 5th election, it’s time to celebrate an unequivocal victory for all friends of law enforcement – but also, to acknowledge the months of work that made this triumph possible, and to examine the lessons that will allow us to consolidate our achievement.

The upheaval of the last decade gave birth to our longest and most ambitious “Get Out the Vote” campaign so far. Here, we brought together all these different groups – lone cops struggling to make ends meet, parents worried about their children’s safety, sheriffs chafing against the red tape – and turned their concerns into a commitment: to use their vote to bring forward a new administration.

Our Messaging

A person casting a ballot, encouraging others to vote for local candidates in an election.

The strategy we used built on the lessons learned during the 2022 elections. With simple, but data-backed messaging, we identified over 60,000 voters who felt just like we did – and we were able to convince thousands of them to pledge their vote to pro-police candidates.

2024 Election Wrap-Up: The Numbers, Strategy, and Key Lessons from a Resounding Victory

The first step was to find the right “pain points” that would get voters to commit to our cause for the long term. To turn discontent into action, we provided people with a simple instruction: Support the Police at the polls, just like they support YOU every day.

This simple idea then turned into three specific steps:

  1. To identify local politicians who openly support a strong, well-funded, and well-trained police force
  2. To get involved with candidates who take a stand in favor of police officers
  3. To show up on November 5th with law enforcement issues first on our minds.

The Tools

Our campaign was built around a central “2024 Voter Guide” which was the bedrock of our mission. This Guide provided further depth on our key messages, motivating readers to make their vote matter and providing them with the necessary tools to be “election ready” – from voting registration to state-wide voting guidance.

To bring this guide into people’s hands, we used:

  • A series of four emails of increasing urgency, each one expanding on a different angle of law enforcement
  • A physical mailer and a buck slip
  • An automated call campaign to act as a “reminder” as election day approached

The Results

Throughout 2024, our media was sent to approximately 13,000 homes every month. By the November 1st, 2024 we:

  • Sent 145,084 printed flyers and voter information packets
  • Sent 115,519 physical reminders
  • Received 640 e-mail responses
  • Counted 243,156 recipients who committed to our campaign
  • Saw 9,268 voters sign the pledge to support our mission.

Meanwhile, rejection numbers remained consistently below 4%.

So What Comes After the Triumph?

The successful outcome of the 2024 election relied on the joint work of hundreds of teams across the country, each one with their own angle at America’s ongoing ailments. As part of this movement, National Police Support Fund focused on the needs and concerns of law enforcement agents at every level.

The new year will hopefully bring a new generation of representatives and governors who will prioritize safety, security, and the people who make it possible. All in all, this should mark a new era in the relationships between police and the larger public.
