National Police Support Fund’s final highlight of advisory committee member, Mike Casey, focuses on community involvement. (Read part 1 and part 2 of the interview here)
“I’ve always believed in being involved as a member of my community,” Casey said. “I do a lot of work with my church. I’ve also been on a couple of nonprofit boards. I was on the board of a local community theater. I have also been heavily involved with ‘Oneness,’ which really does a lot for the community. I’m looking, I’m looking at doing more if I possibly can.”
We have learned since our interview with Casey that he is one who does not like to sit on the sidelines and watch the world pass him by. He is currently also a member of his local Lions Club.
“I come from a family that was very politically active and very active in the community,” said Casey. “It’s just what I was brought up with. In every culture which I’m comfortable. You know, we have to be involved as members of our community in some way and put our talents to work where we can to make the world a better place.”
Casey thinks there are too many people in this world who look inward and just take care of themselves. “Those thoughts have crossed my mind on occasion, when we fight so hard, and then we’re dismayed by what happens particularly in the political arena. So, I think that’s too short-sighted,” said Casey. “Yeah, we need to take care of our families and we need to take care of what’s important close to home, but you know, I think that people, if you want to make a difference in this world, you need to be involved, you need to look outward as well as inward.”
“I think that people of conscience do need to be involved in their communities because you know, if we all look inward, there’s nobody taking care of the larger issues and then you’ll find that these things do come and they do affect where you live in brief,” said Casey.
Casey finished his thoughts on community involvement with, “You know, if we ignore what’s going on in the world today, it will come and knock on our door and then it’s too late.”
